Anton Balkitis heads the Road Transport & Regulatory Law team at Rothera Sharp Solicitors and deals with regulatory compliance issues daily. He is an experienced Advocate defending drivers and goods / passenger operators in the Magistrates’ and Crown Courts and at Operator Licensing Public Inquiries before Traffic Commissioners. He also deals with Carrier’s Liability, Coroner’s Inquests and conducts his own Appeals against Sentence. Anton also acts for drivers in connection with vehicle offences and licence entitlements.
Anton also sits on the FTA Regional Freight Council and is a member of the IRU’s Legal Assistance Network. For the past ten years Anton has been described as a ‘Leading Individual’ in his field by the Legal 500 Guide to the Legal Profession.

Olivia Maginn frequently deals with multiple operator licensing matters, assisting large operators with the re-organisation of their licences. Olivia also regularly represents operators at Public Inquiries and drivers at Driver Conduct Hearings before Traffic Commissioners.
Like Anton, Olivia also deals with a range of prosecutions including Drivers’ Hours, Record Keeping and Construction & Use. In addition, Olivia also frequently represents at DVSA investigations and is a regular in Magistrates’ and Crown Courts. Olivia represents motorists in such matters as speeding, drink driving, careless and dangerous driving.
She also has expertise in the implementation of the Carriers’ Liability provisions dealing with the problem of stowaways and smuggling for our haulage clients.
Laura Newton is an expert in dealing with motoring prosecutions. Laura spent a number of years as a Court Legal Adviser advising Magistrates within the Courts Service in respect of evidence, procedure and sentencing.
Laura also represents operators, transport managers and drivers and deals with Traffic Commissioner public inquiries and driver conduct hearings. She is experienced in making representations to the Office of the Traffic Commissioner. Laura also has experience of working for the Home Office and has successfully made representations to the Border Agency in respect of civil penalties for the carriage of clandestine entrants for transport companies.
Georgina Geddes is a paralegal in the transport law department. She graduated from Nottingham Trent Law School with a first class LLB hons and has built up a range of experience in the legal sector working with a number of city centre firms before joining Rothera Sharp in January 2017.
Georgina specialises in transport law and road traffic matters and will be able to advise drivers, transport managers and operator licence holders on a wide range of legal issues that arise. Her professional manner and attention to detail assures clients that they are in safe hands.
Alethea Lucas is a Legal Assistant in the transport law department. She graduated from her LLB undergraduate degree in 2016 and is set to graduate with a distinction in her LLM master’s degree, both from the University of Sheffield, in 2018.
Alethea provides advice and guidance on motoring and transport enquiries in addition to preparing files for Court and liaising with clients. Her friendly demeanour and strong work ethic ensures that clients’ enquiries are dealt with efficiently and effectively.
Wayne Vickers handles a wide range of claims ranging from road traffic accidents to multiple injury claims on behalf of Road Transport clients. Wayne also has knowledge of workplace laws applicable to accidents at work claims and deals with Health & Safety matters for our hauliers etc.
Wayne has particular expertise in claims and insurance cases.
Terhi Sygrove is head of the debt recovery department at Rothera Sharp. She advises on all aspects of debt recovery from pre court negotiations and settlements to issuing court proceedings and various enforcement proceedings to recover clients’ money. Terhi is a member of the Chartered Institute of Credit Management and regularly receives instructions to recover debts on behalf of our transport and logistics company clients.
Sandra Holland is the first point of contact for all clients in the Motorist Defence and Road Transport Department. Sandra is always on hand to advise clients in the right direction. This suits Sandra perfectly as she likes meeting new people and socialising with her friends and colleagues.
